Collaboration within the EuroTech Universities Alliance goes beyond the activities in the four main Focus Areas. The EuroTech Universities Alliance is a dynamic network open to bottom up definition of joint initiatives across education, research, entrepreneurship as well as science management.

The Alliance has stimulated and guided joint research projects within areas of green technologies. The EuroTech Universities have complementary experimental facilities and competences in this domain. The GreenTech initiative has promoted research on a scale that could not be achieved by one partner alone. The projects offer a platform for young researchers to collaborate across the EuroTech Universities, with PhD projects, mobility for postdocs and thematic summer schools.
Energy Efficient Buildings & Communities (EEBC)
The research groups involved from the partner universities each have their own specialized focus in the field of EEBC. The project has investigated how resources can be used more efficiently in the building sector and to increase energy efficiency. Overlapping and complementary competences benefit both research and education. The three-year project was awarded support from the Alliance in early 2012.
Interface Science for Photovoltaics (ISPV)
This initiative has furthered the development of future photovoltaic technologies by combining the knowledge from the fields of thin film and organic photovoltaics. ISPV has focused on fundamental issues within solar cell research, bringing together two disciplines: thin film solar cells and polymer solar cells. The three-year project was awarded support from the Alliance in late 2012.
Wind Farms (Wind)
The goal of the Wind project is to make wind energy production efficient while lowering noise emission through fundamental insights into the interaction between atmospheric turbulence, wind turbines and terrain. The three-year project was awarded support from the Alliance in 2013.
Innovative Doctoral Training
As a core part of their mission to contribute to addressing societal challenges and to educating the workforce of tomorrow, leading universities of science and technology have developed innovative models of doctoral training. The EuroTech Universities Alliance has served as an active platform for exchange for its member graduate schools and engaged in the European policy dialogue on a number of occasions, be it individually or with other networks of leading European Universities of Science & Technology.
Joint PhD Course Database
On 1 October 2014, the Graduate Schools across the EuroTech Universities launched a joint EuroTech PhD Course Database, a real testimonial of the intensive cooperation within the Alliance. The aim of the database is to increase visibility of and cooperation on PhD courses across the four universities. The rise in mobility among doctoral researchers will result in a more rational utilization of resources and in more research cooperation. The database contains all PhD courses from the four partner universities – both technical and non-technical – which are open and free to all doctoral candidates registered at one of the universities.
Joint Supervision of Doctoral Candidates
Formally signed by the Presidents of the EuroTech Universities, the Joint Supervision agreement between EuroTech’s Graduate Schools aims to ensure a better doctoral experience and more formal recognition of the co-supervision in the thesis and the award diploma.
The EuroTech Universities offer several joint MSc programmes within selected areas. These programmes are developed bilaterally between two universities in the Alliance.

Double Degree MSc programme
Double Degree programmes are usually of two to three years duration. After studies at both institutions, students are awarded one diploma from each institution. The EuroTech Universities currently offer one double degree programme:
This programme enables students to graduate from TUM as well as from EPFL after having successfully completed the defined programme of engineering studies. Applicants are selected jointly. TUM students spend the first three semesters at EPFL, then finish with one semester and a master thesis at TUM. EPFL students start their studies at their home institution, after two semesters continue with two semesters and a master thesis at TUM.
Staff and student exchange
With a long tradition of bilateral exchange of students and staff, the EuroTech Universities have launched pilot projects to improve and structure the exchange opportunities.
