On 23 March the Strategic Area Smart Mobility of EuroTech member TU Eindhoven was awarded the Gouden RAI Wiel 2016 award by Dutch Minister for Infrastructure and Environment Schultz van Haegen. The Gouden Wiel (Golden Wheel) is an annual mobility award for people or institutions who merit special recognition for their services in the area of traffic and transport.
Minister Schultz van Haegen praised the achievements of Eindhoven University of Technology during the awards ceremony: “With seven acclaimed student teams, various successful start-ups and 200 researchers, the Strategic Area Smart Mobility makes an important contribution to a cleaner, safer and more robust mobility. In this team young talents have the scope to become successful and find solutions to our societal challenges. That produces some nice innovations.”
TU/e sees a prominent role for technology in minimizing the negative effects of mobility. Through education and research TU/e contributes to innovative technologies for sustainable mobility. Carlo van de Weijer, director of the TU/e Strategic Area Smart Mobility who is also heavily involved in joint EuroTech initiatives says: “It is a privilege to work with such motivated researchers and students. They work with an almost unbridled energy and talent on creating solutions that can change the world for the better”.
