28 April 2026 |At its annual Commemoration on 24 April, the EuroTech member – Technical University of Denmark (DTU), brought together students, staff, partners and guests, including Queen Mary of Denmark and Margrethe Vestager, Chair of the Board of DTU and former EC Executive Vice-President for “A Europe Fit for the Digital Age” and Commissioner for Competition, to celebrate the past year’s achievements and reflect on the university’s role in a changing global landscape.
The EuroTech Universities Alliance was represented at the event by the Secretary General, Sophie Viscido, and DTU’s Liaison Officer, Sophie Marandon, engaging with DTU’s community on their campus.
In his keynote address, DTU President Anders Bjarklev framed the university’s progress within a rapidly changing world and stressed the need for stronger alliances to address shared technological and societal challenges:
“For no one can lift the task alone. No one. Alliances matter more than ever. Strong, long-term alliances and partnerships.”
In this regard, he mentioned an important milestone for EuroTech celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. The Alliance notably originates from an earlier collaborative initiative between DTU and the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Fifteen years ago, this collaboration was formalised into a structured alliance, which now brings together six leading technical universities with the aim of strengthening joint activities in research, innovation and education. This long-standing partnership reflects a shared commitment to shaping Europe’s technological future through cooperation rather than competition.
Innovation and student entrepreneurship also featured prominently at the event. The Innovation Award was given to DTU Professor, Anne Ladegaard Skov for her work in polymer technology and in translating research into practical solutions through strong industry collaboration. The Student Startup of the Year Award went to Triton Depth for its underwater monitoring solution aimed at strengthening infrastructure security.
With innovation and entrepreneurship identified among key pillars of the EuroTech Strategy 2030, the achievements of researchers and students across member universities highlight the value of combining expertise and capabilities to deliver greater collective impact.
