The European Research Council (ERC) is part of the Horizon Europe framework programme. It is one of the most prestigious funding programmes world-wide. The ERC’s mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, based on scientific excellence.
The ERC operates four funding schemes:
- ERC Starting Grants for early-career researchers;
- ERC Consolidator Grants for researchers with 7-12 years of experience since completion of their PhD;
- ERC Advanced Grants for established, leading principal investigators;
- ERC Synergy Grants for groups of two to maximum four principal investigators.
For more detailed information on ERC Grants, please visit the ERC’s website.
EuroTech Universities and the European Research Council
EuroTech is an alliance of excellent universities of science and technology. All six universities have been very successful in applying for ERC Grants, which are by design excellence-driven.
Most ERC funding schemes target individual researchers. As an alliance, we support teams of researchers applying for ERC Synergy Grants, which are granted to groups of up to four principal investigators (PIs) demonstrating an exceptional combination of knowledge and skills. Synergy Grants are open to PIs at any career stage and, like the other ERC funding schemes, open to all scientific disciplines.
