3 June 2026 |The EuroTech Universities Alliance will participate in the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) Energy Fair 2026, joining the EERA Joint Programme Energy Storage and EUREC – The Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres at a shared stand under the theme “Smart Energy Systems: Connecting Research, Skills & Infrastructures”.

The stand will bring together researchers, entrepreneurs, universities and industry stakeholders to explore how research, skills and collaboration are helping build a secure, resilient and climate-neutral energy system.

EuroTech will contribute by showcasing initiatives from its member universities and innovation ecosystems, demonstrating how research excellence is translated into practical solutions for a sustainable energy future.

Smart energy management for grid-constrained systems

Visitors will have the opportunity to meet representatives from Zympler, a Dutch smart energy management start-up collaborating with EuroTech member- Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), on projects addressing grid congestion and campus energy optimisation.

At EUSEW, Zympler will present the GENIUS project and demonstrate how its smart energy management platform helps businesses overcome growing grid capacity constraints.

"Zympler's smart energy management platform gives back control to businesses and makes growth possible despite grid limits. Through smart forecasting and integrating energy assets, partners are able to maximise grid capacity while minimising energy costs. We are excited to present these solutions at EUSEW through the case of the GENIUS project."

Zympler’s advanced energy management system integrates solar PV, batteries, EV chargers, generators and industrial loads into a unified control platform. The platform is already deployed at more than 100 sites and is particularly suited to industrial facilities and logistics hubs seeking to accelerate electrification.

Circular industrial heating with iron fuel technology

EuroTech will spotlight RIFT (Renewable Iron Fuel Technology), a TU/e spin-off developing circular iron fuel systems as a promising alternative to fossil fuels for high-temperature industrial heating, helping industries reduce emissions while maintaining a reliable energy supply.

At the stand, RIFT will present its approach to industrial decarbonisation through videos, images and a scale model of its Iron Fuel Boiler. Visitors will also gain insight into the innovation ecosystem connecting RIFT, TU/e and the wider Brainport region.

Hydropower innovation supporting a flexible energy system

EuroTech will also feature contributions from the partner- École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), highlighting two European hydropower projects focused on flexibility, refurbishment and sustainability.

The XFLEX HYDRO project demonstrates how advanced hydropower technologies can provide the flexibility services needed to support power systems with growing shares of variable renewables such as solar and wind.

The Horizon 2020 initiative brings together 19 organisations from across Europe and tests innovations including smart controls, enhanced turbine systems and battery-hydropower hybrid solutions.

Alongside XFLEX HYDRO, EPFL will present the ReHydro project involving 22 partners from seven countries that aims to modernise and refurbish hydropower facilities to strengthen their role in a sustainable future energy system.

By combining expertise from operators, manufacturers, suppliers, research organisations and industry associations, ReHydro seeks to strengthen the role of hydropower in Europe’s future electricity system.
