20 February 2025 | Now you have the chance to honor those who achieved potential research breakthroughs or have had a significant impact on sustainable solutions affecting our economy and society. This year, the Sustainability Award, supported by the Nobel Sustainability Trust (NST) Foundation, will be granted to research frontrunners in sustainability within the fields of Biodiversity and Smart & Sustainable City Solutions, and to societal leaders ensuring the adoption of sustainable solutions.
The deadline for nominating potential awardees is 31 March 2025, 12:00 CET.
Who is eligible?
The TUM Institute for Advanced Study is responsible for selecting the award winners, along with international experts,
The Sustainability Award supported by the NST has been awarded since 2023 and honours sustainability in science, entrepreneurship, and politics for the well-being of our society, economy, and planet.
Who can be nominated this year:
- The Outstanding Research and Development Awards within Biodiversity & Smart and Sustainable City Solutions recognize distinguished innovative andtechnological research with the potential to impact our future.
- Leadership in Implementation Award acknowledges individuals or organisations with a significant impact on sustainable approaches and solutions.
Last year, the award winners were:
- Dr. Mathis Wackernagel (CEO of Global Footprint Network) in the category Leadership in Implementation
- Prof. Klaus Butterbach-Bahl (Head of the Danish Pioneer Center for Landscape Research in Sustainable Agricultural Futures, Aarhus University, researcher at the Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research, Atmospheric Environmental Research, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) in the category Outstanding Research & Development in the field of Agriculture
- Prof. Jiuhui Qu (former Director of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Distinguished Professor, Tsinghua University) in the category Outstanding Research & Development in the field of Water
