CarbonsAI in a nutshell
Location: Eindhoven, Netherlands
Status: Getting incorporated
Globally, non‐reinforced precast concrete accounts for 350 million tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, twice the Netherlands’ CO2 emissions in 2020. CarbonsAI implements a breakthrough method for decarbonizing precast concrete which includes a novel concrete formulation and curing process and optimization with AI. The experimental results have shown that concrete mixtures produced by this method not only meet strength criteria for non‐reinforced precast concrete, but also cut its carbon footprint by more than half. Given the large market of non‐reinforced precast concrete, CarbonsAI has the potential of reducing millions of tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
How much CO2 emissions can your solution save?
350 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually. Calculation method: Non‐reinforced precast concrete accounts for more than 14% of cement production. It is estimated that 4.3 Gt cement was produced globally in 2020, and cement produces 0.59 tCO2/tCement. Taken together, globally, non‐reinforced precast concrete accounts for well over 14% × 0.59 × 4.3Gt = 355 million metric tons of CO2 emissions annually.
Does your solution depend on suppliers from outside Europe?
No, it doesn’t.
