20 March 2020 | The EuroTech Universities Alliance regularly facilitates workshops to bring together researchers from all six partner institutions. From February 20 to 21, 2020, the new TUM Department of Aerospace and Geodesy hosted a workshop in Munich. The goal was to get to know their European colleagues, design joint activities in the field, and explore future EU funding opportunities.
Around 30 researchers of the EuroTech universities came together in the south of Munich to exchange research expertise within the topic of Satellite Remote Sensing and Global Climate Change. Representatives from TU Eindhoven, DTU Copenhagen, TU Munich. and EPFL Lausanne attended the lively workshop. The event was a follow-up to a previous first meeting in this scientific field last September in Lausanne.
With the focus on global climate change and space-technologies in climate-relevant applications, this activity fits perfectly within the new EuroTech focus area Sustainable Society, which was launched by the EuroTech presidents in 2019. Space is a most relevant topic on European scale, as space technology, data and services have become indispensable in the lives of Europeans.
Space as central topic within the focus area Sustainable Society
The researchers identified great complementarity in their work and the partners unanimously agreed on intensifying the collaboration within the field. Different ways of cooperation are envisioned, such as joint research projects and educational formats in the area of Space that could be employed within the EuroTech Alliance. The researchers would like to establish Space as a central topic within the new focus area, where they see the Alliance as an ideal setting for the universities to display and develop their Space-related competences and collaboration in the European research and public landscape.
Maria-Valerie Schegk, representing TUM within the EuroTech Universities Alliance Brussels Office, attended the workshop to inform the group of EU-funding instruments and on newest developments in the European Commission.
