Clean Hydrogen by EuroTech Universities

Clean Hydrogen is at the core of REPowerEU. With this EuroTech Policy Deep Dive on 29 November 2022, we offered a platform to discuss various aspects, from hydrogen production to handling to usage, including different perspectives: policy, industry, and research.

Clean hydrogen

On 29 November 2022, we organised the EuroTech Policy Deep Dive “Clean Hydrogen – Re-Powering a Sustainable Society”. Clean hydrogen is at the core of the REPowerEU Plan and the Fit for 55 package, major initiatives within the European Green Deal.

Europe needs to strive for more sustainability and autonomy when it comes to the production and supply of clean energy. REPowerEU (published on 18 May 2022) is focused on ending the EU’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels and fast-forwarding the green transition. It completes the implementation of the European hydrogen strategy while further increasing the European ambitions for renewable hydrogen as an important energy carrier.

Universities of science and technology play a crucial role this endeavour. With this Policy Deep Dive, we offered a platform to discuss various aspects, from hydrogen production to handling to usage, including different perspectives: policy, industry, and research.

We were happy to welcome the following distinguished speakers:

Dive deeper

All six EuroTech Universities are active in research, innovation and education in topics related to clean hydrogen. From some universities you heard during the event. Find below two more examples of how this looks like in practice.

EPFL – Organic semiconductors are on their way to clean hydrogen production

The global-scale production of solar fuels is urgently needed to progress towards a low-carbon energy economy. Solar-driven green hydrogen (H2) production via water splitting as researched by Kevin Sivula stands out as a promising approach. Read more

Technion – Enabling affordable green hydrogen production at scale

H2PRO‘s mission is to enable the wide scale adoption of sustainable hydrogen fuel by introducing a novel production technology E-TAC (Electrochemical, Thermally Activated Chemical), a revolutionary method for splitting water. Read more
