Summer school – Low and high techs: Which socio-technical solutions for the energy transition

This Summer School for master’s students, PhD students, and postdocs explores the interactions between technology and the energy transition from an interdisciplinary point of view. Activities emphasize the dialog between various approaches and practices, moving beyond the opposition between techno-optimistic views and low-tech perspectives. The Summer School is organised by Institut Polytechnique de Paris’ Energy4Climate Interdisciplinary Center and the Campus de la Transition.


Programme 1st week (IP Paris)

26/06: Welcoming, framing of the school and presentation of the case studies

27/06: Ecological issues & obstacles to the transformation of cities and building & Experiences of scientists’ engagement

28/06: Design Fiction: Designing disruptive visions of future buildings

29/06: Engaging with socio-technical controversies

30/06: Managing innovation and discussing high-tech experiences


Programme 2nd week (Campus de la Transition)

03/07: Introducing the Campus, its building and its project & introducing industrial ecology through life-cycle analysis

04/07: Making sense of sufficiency and experimenting with low-techs & Rethinking the neutrality of scientists and engaging in research action

05/07: Challenging the dominant energy paradigm: the uneven historical development of alternative energies

06/07: Taming technological development?

07/07: Final project presentations and conclusion
