23 November 2023 | “Happy to confirm exploratory talks on Swiss association to Horizon Europe can start. We are ready!” EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Iliana Ivanova announced on 22 November. Since 2021, Switzerland has not been associated to European programmes. While Swiss partners are still able to join collaborative projects, they need to bring in their own funding. The Swiss government has been providing national funds for Horizon Europe calls to bridge that gap. Ivanova’s announcement followed a statement of Executive Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič that the European Commission had endorsed a common understanding with Switzerland, which will frame the negotiation of a broad package between the EU and Switzerland.
